Guidelines for use of Hug-a-Tree and Survive (HAT) program and materials

  1. Formally trained presenters may continue making presentations as they have in the past, but should send a note to hugatree@nasar.org to receive an invitation to subscribe to the HAT email list (hugatree@yahoogroups.com).

  2. The old HAT materials (slides and handouts) may be used as in the past, but all presenters are responsible for maintaining their own detailed records of programs.

  3. Presenters are no longer required to be "certified." However, it is in everyone’s best interest if presenters are trained to present the program, and shadowing an experienced presenter is the best way to accomplish this.

  4. NASAR will not prevent anyone from presenting the HAT program or materials as long as they are used in a manner that (a) reflects positively upon both the program and NASAR, (b) benefits children, and (c) honors the original intent and goals of the program. But, NASAR reserves the right to revoke this permission with cause.

  5. Presentations shall be the sole responsibility of the presenter, and presenters shall be the sole responsibility of the program sponsor (e.g., the one who invites or authorizes the presenter). NASAR accepts no responsibility for the quality or content of any programs presented or those who present it.

  6. As in the past, presenters may only charge for actual expenses for making a presentation. Presenters are not permitted to charge a fee for presenting HAT.

  7. Any agreement or contract with the former national Hug-a-Tree and Survive corporation shall continue in force with NASAR until further notice.

  8. The use of the Hug-a-Tree and/or NASAR names and marks require the express, written permission of NASAR. Contact Megan Bartlett (Executive Director of NASAR, meganr@nasar.org) with specific questions on this.
