Welcome to the first 2008 NASAR Member Newsletter! Due to moving the website
and the new host company being put into place, the newsletters were suspended
until now. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
2008 National Search and Rescue Conference
The 2008 Annual Conference is fast approaching! There are many pre-conference
workshops including K9 SARTECH Certifications, the FEMA Equivalent Planning Team
Training and Water Operations Officer Development. They are posted to the
Conference Website as is the conference workshop track information. If you have any questions,
please contact the
Executive Director.
The FUNSAR, MLPI and ADSAR Instructor Workshops will be offered at the conference
also. This year it is our goal to have attendees that are qualified walk away
with their full instructor status for these classes. Please visit the
Education Track workshop descriptions for all prerequisites and how the workshops will be run.
The hotel for the conference is the
Colorado Springs Crowne Plaza. Room rates are $89 per night plus tax. Please be sure to use the group name

K9 2008 National Search and Rescue Conference Canine Handler Scholarship
In November 2004, Pedigree established a $20,000 endowment within NASAR so that
each year, a deserving canine handler could attend the NASAR conference with less
financial burden. The endowment is called the Peter A. Cheney Canine Handler
Scholarship in recognition of the former President of Mars, Inc. which owns the
Pedigree brand.
The NASAR handler who is selected will receive: complimentary conference registration,
complimentary pass to the Hospitality Suite, and $500 toward travel and lodging
expenses. Additionally, the recipient will be honored at the Conference Opening
Ceremonies on Thursday, May 29, 2008 and will have his/her name engraved on a
plaque commemorating the scholarship recipients.

K9 of the Year
Why is your canine partner NASAR's K9 of the Year?
Tell us what makes your canine partner NASAR's K9 of the Year and NASAR will
give the winner $1,000.00.
Submit your 500 word essay and a jpeg photo of handler and canine by
April 18, 2008.
- The handler must be a current NASAR member (either Individual or an active member
of a NASAR member Organization).
- The dog must have been an active or certified K9 during the calendar year 2007
(dogs that retired during 2007 are eligible)
- The events that are the subject of the essay must have occurred in the calendar
year 2007.
The winning entry will be announced at the 2008 NASAR Conference.
Call for Board of Director Nominations
Those wishing to run for the NASAR Board of Directors in the 2008 Election must
have their information to the Nominations Chair by 5pm MST on May 29, 2008.
