Corporate Information
Minutes from the March and April Board of Director’s Conference Call have been posted to the NASAR website.

NASAR is proud to offer the new NASAR Challenge Coin. Traditionally, the challenge coin is awarded or offered to members of an organization or military unit to signify their full acceptance into that unit.

The challenge, which can be made at any time, begins with the challenger drawing his/her coin and "challenging" another unit member by its display. Those being challenged must then produce their coin to meet the challenge.  Those failing to have their coin in possession must then fulfill any prior agreed upon penalty for not meeting the challenge, e.g. buy a drink for the challenger and everyone else who has their challenge coin. However, in that example, should everyone challenged be able to produce their coin, the challenger must buy a round of drinks for the group.

The NASAR Challenge Coin is for sale through the bookstore. Get yours today!

Message from the NASAR President
Dear SAR Professional,
As the 2010 summer begins, I hope that you and yours will enjoy a safe and fun-filled season in the sun.  Because summer is for many a time of vacation and adventure, SAR teams often see an increase in demand for their critical services.  It is during these periods that individual and team training efforts are realized.  It is also a time where the knowledge, skills and certifications acquired through NASAR are at their greatest value.

At the beginning of each summer season, NASAR holds its Annual National Conference and this year was no exception.  In the beginning of May we met in Tunica, Mississippi at the invitation of the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security.  With their huge support, pre-conference efforts, and warm hospitality of the Mississippi SAR Community, the conference was a success.  The Board of Director’s and Staff thank all those in Mississippi that assisted with the conference.

A recurrent theme heard by your Board of Directors in Tunica was the need to revisit the current method of NASAR course delivery.  Specifically noted is the need to make our courses and certifications more accessible and affordable.  With that as focus, the Board is working to refine existing procedures.  Expect positive refinements in the near term.

Plans are under way for the 2011 Conference.  Please mark your calendar and save the date for the 2011 Conference in Reno, NV, June 2-4.  The conference provides a forum to not only sharpen skills and increase your professionalism but to also network with your SAR peers.  Don’t miss this opportunity!  Information about the conference will be released on the NASAR website in the coming months.

Stay safe and know that your commitment to those in need is greatly appreciated.

Humbly Yours,

Dan Hourihan
President
